Resident Scholarly Activity Funding Process

Funding will be considered on a case by case basis.

Preferences will be given in the following order:

  1. PGY3s with abstracts accepted to National meeting and have not received funding before
  2. PGY3s with abstracts accepted to Regional/State meetings and have not received funding before
  3. PGY2s with abstracts accepted to National meeting and have not received funding before
  4. PGY2s with abstracts accepted to Regional/State meetings and have not received funding before
  5. PGY1s with abstracts accepted to National meeting and have not received funding before
  6. PGY1s with abstracts accepted to Regional/State meetings and have not received funding before
  7. The order of preference will then be repeated in the same order for those that have previously received funding

Within each level preference will be given as follows:

  1. Mentored research abstracts (basic science, clinical epi/HSR) and curricular innovation abstracts
  2. Clinical vignette

In order to apply for funding for travel, residents must:

  1. All request for funding must be accompanied by a brief letter from you faculty mentor. The letter should indicate that the faculty mentor has reviewed your abstract and supports your submission to the indicated conference and believe that the conference is of high scholarly caliber.
  2. Inform the program (through Dr. Lee) of their intent to submit to a conference at least one month prior to submission
  3. Have abstract reviewed by the program prior to submission
  4. Indicate dates of the conference
  5. Indicate location of conference
  6. Identify any participating faculty mentor
  7. Submit final draft of abstract submission to the program
  8. Provide projected travel budget (transportation/hotel accommodation/conference fees, etc.)

All residents funded are required to have oral presentations and posters reviewed by the program scholarly activity committee prior to presentation at the conference.
