VCU Internal Medicine Training Program
2010 American College of Physicians Competition
It's August and it's time for the ACP abstarct competition submissions to get started. This is a great opportunity to take that unique or interesting case that you've been holding on to and put in on paper. Or maybe you've been doing some reasearch that you would like to share with fellow physicians. How do you do this? It's easy and you guys are going to have some help by the faculty. You guys have done a fantastic job in the past and I'm sure this year will be no different. It does not matter which year of residency you are in. Here are the steps to take:
- Writing the abstract
Below is a link to the ACP website where they guide you in how to structure and guidelines your paper as well as give you examples. For those who have trouble with the link, go to www.acponline.org--> fellows and residents--> competitions--> abstract competition--> preparing--> guide
http://www.acponline.org/residents_fellows/competitions/abstract/prepare/index.html
- Submit to faculty for review- Deadline August 31st by midnight
Mainly you are going to submit the abstract to me through e-mail initially and I will distribute it to faculty for review.
- Revisement of abstract after first review
This will take place mid-September
- Re-submit to faculty for final review—Deadline September 21st
- Submit to ACP throught their website—Deadline October 1st
Once your abstract is ready to go, ACP requires that you submit it yourself. You will do this through the ACP website and it will require your ACP membership number. Your ACP number will allow you to register online and you will set up a username and password. I would do this ahead of time and not wait for the night of September 30th. If you don' t know your ACP membership number, any of the chiefs can help you out with this.
Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions.
Sincerely,
Cia
