Ambulatory Care APD: Bennett Lee, MD, MPH
GOALS:
- Improve Quality of Patient Care
- Increase Resident Satisfaction as Primary Care Providers
Partnership Structure
- Partners by 1/2 day clinic
- Partners will rarely be in same clinic at the same time (alternate ACC – VA)
- Exceptions: Tuesday & Friday Womens Health; Thursday Med Peds
- Partners are within the same training year to facilitate continuity when possible
- In assigning partners, overlapping ICU/NF times avoided as much as possible, but not always
- Each Partnership has a designated Attending
- Attending assignments are by half-day
- Ratio 1 Attending: 8 Partnerships maximum
- Dr. Bennett Lee (Ambulatory APD) serves as back-up attending for all partnerships
Expectations of Partners
- Follow-up on labs, films, diagnostic testing, specialty appointments, etc
- See partners’ patients in frozen and overbook spots as needed
- Define & document goals, expectations, and procedures for follow-up and communication about patient care
- Communicate with partner after each clinic day re: flagged follow-up
- Decide with partner what constitutes "flagged" and their preferred method of communication
- Use your Partnership Attending for patient care questions and follow-up support
- Anticipate scheduling conflicts that hinder patient follow-up and make a plan to address this, using Attending support when absolutely necessary
Expectations of Partnership Attending
- Be identifiable, available to Partners
- Provide follow-up (on urgent matters) during those ½ blocks identified by Partners as scheduling challenges
- Provide follow-up on a case-by-case basis through open communication with Partners
- Provide guidance on patient care
- Attending is NOT responsible for Partners' follow-up if the pair is lagging on their chart work
