VCU Internal Medicine Training Program
American College of Physicians Associates Meeting
January 2008
The eleventh annual VA-ACP Associates' Program was held on January 19, 2008 at the Omni here in Richmond. It gave internal medicine residents from across the state a chance to showcase their research. The program consisted of an abstract competition (in original research and clinical vignette categories) as well as medical jeopardy amongst five residency programs. A total of 16 top abstracts were selected from the presented 40. The top two abstracts were selected to go to the ACP annual scientific session in May while the remaining 14 were to compete again at the annual VA-ACP annual scientific meeting in March. VCUMC residents contributed 11 of the abstracts in the state and won a total of five spots, the most by any residency program, including one abstract selected for the national meeting.
Dr. Richard P Wenzel, chairman of the Department, was the keynote speaker and our internal medicine chief residents, Drs. Betsy Naylor, Mini Mahata, Michael Stevens and Andrew Poklepovic, moderated the associates' session. The Department's residency director, Dr. Stephanie Call, and associate program directors, Drs. Bennett Lee and Jeff Kushinka, also made significant contributions to assure the success of the program.
