Learning Objectives
At the end of the rotation, residents will be able to:
- Patient Care:
- Experience additional ambulatory care clinics through various outpatient subspecialty clinic
- Identify and perform an accurate history and physical exam that is appropriate for the subspecialty clinic and the presenting medical problems
- Develop skills in managing common presentations in the subspecialty clinics
- Identify the appropriate laboratory, radiographic and other studies indicated to provide appropriate management and diagnostic testing in the ambulatory subspecialty setting
- Medical Knowledge:
- Recognize and be able to compile a differential diagnosis for common medical problems in the ambulatory subspecialty setting
- Interpret laboratories and radiographic studies in the context of patient care in a subspecialty clinic
- Appropriately identify the necessary work-up prior to referral to a specialist
- Practice-Based Learning and Improvement:
- Recognize how to utilize available subspecialty clinics to make timely and appropriate diagnostic and management decisions in the ambulatory setting
- Become familiar with the necessary work up prior to referral to a specialist
- Interpersonal and Communication Skills:
- Develop skills in effective communication and utilization of consultative services for appropriate and complete patient care
- Professionalism:
- Demonstrate respect and compassion in interactions with colleagues, patients, families
- Demonstrate effective communication of clinical questions, medical problems and interventions to consultation services to facilitate continuity of patient care
- Systems-Based Practice:
- Be familiar with subspecialty career options and systems-based practice in a clinic setting
- Be familiar with the subspecialty components of a health care team in the continuity ambulatory care setting
How Learning Objectives are met:
- Evaluating patients referred to the various subspecialty clinics under the guidance of subspecialty attendings
- Discussions with residents and attendings regarding patient presentation and management issues

Expectations:
- Attendance and punctuality for all clinics
- Completion of patient documentation
- Discuss presentation and proposed management of every patient evaluated with the attending physician supervisor
